About Us
Allegheny General has the only hospital-wide Bloodless Medicine program
in Pittsburgh
Established in July 1998, The Center for Bloodless Medicine and Surgery provides and protects the right to quality health care for patients needing medical or surgical treatment but refusing blood transfusions.
The ultimate goal is to provide the available and appropriate service and treatment that satisfies the patient's health-care needs.
Bloodless medicine coordinators and physicians serve as a gateway for hospital staff throughout the West Penn Allegheny Health System to learn about:
- The advantages of bloodless medicine for patients
- Medical and surgical specialties that employ bloodless medicine techniques and technologies in bloodless medicine used successfully at AGH.
- Medical staff members familiar with addressing the needs and expectations of patients requesting bloodless medical treatment.
